Global container traffic increases by 5% to 8% next year

With the increase of trade between Asian regions, the global container shipping volume will increase by 5% to 8% next year, which will slow down the impact of reduced demand in Europe and the United States.

Xing Yimin, president of APL, a subsidiary of Hailan Steamship (NOL), made the above statement to the media the day before yesterday. He said: "Growth will take Asia as the main axis, especially China and India will keep up."

Last year was the first time that the shipping industry suffered a severe setback since the 1970s. Compared with 12% last year, only 2% of cargo ships are idle this year. Sea King Marine and Evergreen Marine Corp have ordered new ships to prepare for the Asian trade to take off.

Xing Yimin also said that Thanksgiving and Christmas have stimulated strong growth in the shipping industry in the third quarter. According to the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement, shipments between Asia and the United States in the first quarter increased by 13% to 1.27 million 40-foot counters.
