On the morning of August 8, Xi'an Cummins Engine Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Shaanxi Automobile Group and Cummins of the United States, opened its doors and put into operation the Cummins ISM 11-liter all-electrically-controlled heavy-duty diesel engine. Wu Dengchang, vice governor of Shaanxi Province attended the opening ceremony.
The ISM Series 11-litre fully electronically controlled diesel engine is one of Cummins’ flagship engines with a power range of 335-440 hp. This type of engine has large heavy-load torque, fuel economy, strong power, good controllability, low noise, and an average overhaul mileage of more than 1 million kilometers. It can be widely used in heavy trucks, special vehicles, cement mixers, large passenger cars and construction machinery with a total vehicle weight of 26-44 tons. Currently, it has a global holding of more than 400,000 units. The ISM engine has been successively supported by world-renowned heavy truck companies such as Volvo. Since the introduction of the domestic market in the mid-1990s, the ISM series of heavy-duty diesel engines have been adopted by well-known Chinese truck, passenger car and construction machinery companies such as Shaanxi Auto, Hongyan, Jinlong, Yutong and Xugong.
In September 2005, Shaanxi Auto Group and Cummins signed a joint venture contract to form Xi'an Cummins Engine Company. The ratio of the two parties' capital contribution is 50:50 and the registered capital of the company is US$24 million. Since the project started in October 2006, in less than a year, a modern production company has risen and personnel, technology, and equipment have been prepared. The company is located in Xi'an Industrial Park, Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone. It covers an area of ​​172 acres and has an annual production capacity of 50,000 engines. Xi'an Cummins introduced the key equipment of the US Cummins ISM engine, adopted its advanced technological process, and fully absorbed the advanced management experience and manufacturing process that the US factory has accumulated over a long period of time.
Xi'an Cummins is the third engine joint venture of Cummins in China after Dongfeng Cummins and Chongqing Cummins.
On the day of the opening ceremony, Shanxi Tongtai Automobile Sales & Service Co., Ltd. signed a sales contract for 200 engines with Xi'an Cummins.
